Child’s right to a family

The project is implemented with the financial support of the European Commission

Aim: To develop and implement innovative methods of protecting child’s right to have a family

Location: Cherkasy and Rivne Oblasts

Target groups and participants of the project:

Children and families
Social workers
Representatives of governmental bodies (including local government): administrations of adolescent affairs; oblast/region administrations of family, Children, and youth affairs
Representatives of the tribunal Guardianship committees
Representatives of public organizations, which protect children’s interests and media representatives

Objectives:

To build the capacity of both civil society and appropriate government ministries to better address the wellbeing of children who are in the care of the state, protect and promote their rights.
To create a sustainable environment within the regional demonstration sites that supports the advocacy for and protection of the rights of children and their families, and which is also conducive to the process of de-institutionalization of the state child care system.
To disseminate project lessons, tools & opportunities to NGOs, relevant government staff and departments as well as professionals who work in the areas of child welfare and child rights advocacy.

Fors of activity:

Protecting child’s right to a family by reforming children care system in Ukraine
Community based training of child’s right ombudsmen to monitor child’s right protection in families locally
Preparing social services specialists to work with families in crisis with the goal of preventing removal of a child from the family
Directing guardianship committees and judicial system toward making decisions in children’s interests according to their rights
Establishing family groups’ councils to help in forming responsibility for a child amongst family members
