The project is implemented with the support of the international organization "Brot für die Welt" (Germany)

Project duration - 24 months (2008-2009).

The project is being implemented in four pilot districts of Kyiv: Darnytsia, Obolon’, Podil, Sviatoshyn.

Aim: To improve social services in the sphere of prevention of child abuse in 4 pilot districts of Kyiv.

Activities:

• Training for trainers for further work in the community on social and educational activities to prevent child abuse in the family;
• The trial visit of the team of specialists to Poland to study the experience of this country in the sphere of prevention of violence in the families;
• Dissemination of information and methods of work from skilled trainers to broader range of professionals who work directly with children and families;
• Trainings for practitioners of social sphere on detecting cases of child abuse at an early stage;
• Trainings for professionals engaged in rehabilitation of children - victims of various types of violence - psychological, emotional, physical, sexual, etc.;
• Trainings for the workers of law enforcement agencies;
• Trainings for judges as to how to make decisions in the best interests of the child;
• Work with families and parents (particularly with families at risk of child abuse) to prevent the cases of abuse;
• Equipment of the rooms for inquiry of children - victims or witnesses of violence, training of the specialist to work in it;
• Trainings for the representatives of media on problems of child abuse in the families;
• Information campaign "Childhood without violence";
• Creation and organization of the activity of coordination group to develop an action plan, "Prevention of domestic child abuse, rehabilitation of children - victims of violence”, as well as improving cooperation between various sectors in this sphere;
• Seminars on problems of setting cooperation between various governmental and nongovernmental organizations in the sphere of prevention, intervention and rehabilitation;
• Development and publication of informational and methodological materials according to the project results;
• Final conference for the announcement of the results of the project

Expected results:

• Practitioners of the social sphere are familiar with modern technology of prevention of child abuse and rehabilitation of the victims;
• Practitioners of the social sphere of 4 pilot districts of Kyiv began to work more effectively in the sphere of prevention of child abuse;
• A significant number of population of 4 pilot districts of Kyiv realized the importance of the problem of child abuse and has mobilized efforts to solve them;
• Project is evaluated considering the indicators, a concept of implementation is developed for introduction on a larger scale.
